Having admired the British Blue breed of cattle for some time Adam Neachell decided to establish his own herd and to this end purchased two heifers in 2002. Tamhorn Tinkerbelle and Tamhorn Something Special were purchased from Jane & Danny Wyllie to become the foundation females for the herd.

Tamhorn Tinkerbelle, a Cristal De Somme daughter out of Norbreck Kitty, has produced calves by Tamhorn Sumo, Balto de Steinbach, Torrero Du Grand Courty, Dafydd D’Ochain and the latest in 2008 by Empire D’Ochain. The bulls having been sold on and many of the top quality females retained within the herd.

Tamhorn Something Special, a Penlas North Star daughter out of Olalla Van De Wolvendree, has produced calves by Visconti De St Fontaine, Daffyd D’Ochain, Twyning Ash Troy and Tamhorn Victorious. Once again the bulls have been sold on and the females retained. One of the females, Cromwell Classy Boots by Tamhorn Victorious is a member of the 2008 show team.

The herd is steadily being increased in numbers by the purchase of high quality genetic stock as it becomes available both at British Blue Cattle Society sales and privately from pedigree sources such as Graham Brindley’s Bringlee herd and Jane & Danny Wyllie’s Tamhorn herd.

An astute flushing programme is now a major part of the herd’s progression aiming to provide quality genetics that not only provide breadth and depth to the Cromwell herd but are also keenly sought after by other discerning British Blue breeders both established and new.

The new herd sire, Solway View Antonio, is producing quality calves from the herd’s females and embryos have already been implanted with a future breeding programme in mind.
